By J-W Staff Report     Aug 19, 2022

The 23rd-ranked Kansas volleyball team unofficially opened the 2022 season with a home sweep of Drake on Friday night at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.

The Jayhawks were, however, pushed in two of the three sets. KU defeated the Bulldogs, 25-23, 25-13 and 29-27 in front of an energetic crowd eager to see the new faces and returning veterans that make up this year’s roster.

Kansas used 15 different players in the match and was led by returning All-American Caroline Bien, who had 11 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore setter Camryn Turner also recorded 32 assists.

Friday’s match was the Jayhawks’ lone exhibition outing of the season. KU will open the regular season on Aug. 26 at the Utah Classic in Salt Lake City.

The Jayhawks’ home opener is slated for Sept. 8 against Wichita State in the Kansas Invitational. KU will play seven matches away from home to open the season.
