Former Kansas guard Nick Timberlake has signed to play professional basketball for Portuguese team AD Galomar, his agent Jeff Allen told the Journal-World on Thursday night.
“We are very excited for him,” Allen, of Pro Basket Consulting, wrote in an email message.
Timberlake played the 2023-24 season at KU. He averaged 5.2 points and 1.9 rebounds for the Jayhawks in 34 games, primarily coming off the bench but also starting in eight games due to Kevin McCullar Jr.’s late-season injury issues.
Timberlake had arrived as a highly touted transfer from Towson, where he played for five years before making the move to Lawrence. He started 85 games across his final three seasons with the Tigers and during the last one tallied 17.7 points per game while shooting 41.6% from deep.
He struggled early in his tenure with the Jayhawks, but had some highlight-reel dunks and then redemptive games later in the season, including an 18-point, four-3-pointer performance against Kansas State on senior night and then 19 points against Samford in the opening round of the tournament.
He was also involved in a memorable, controversial play late against Samford when he attempted to go for a game-changing dunk that would have put the Jayhawks up three points. The Bulldogs’ A.J. Staton-McCray swatted at the ball and got called for a foul, much to the dismay of his teammates, and Timberlake made the ensuing free throws to help seal the victory. Timberlake said after the game that he believed he was fouled.
The native of Braintree, Massachusetts, will now get a chance to continue his basketball career following KU’s second-round exit from the tournament. Galomar finished 10th of 12 teams with a 6-16 record in the top tier of Portuguese basketball last year.
Other Jayhawks from the 2023-24 season playing professionally include Johnny Furphy and McCullar, who were both drafted into the NBA, and Parker Braun, who is in the NBA Summer League.
