The Kansas football team is still trying to make the most of its 2023 campaign, but has just received a window into what its 2024 and beyond will look like.
The Big 12 Conference, which will grow to 16 teams in 2024 with the additions of Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah and departures of Oklahoma and Texas, unveiled Wednesday afternoon its “scheduling matrix” for the next four football seasons.
Across the four years, every team will play every other team at least once both home and away. KU and Kansas State will play each other every year as one of the protected rivalries. The Big 12 also ensured that matchups played in 2023 did not repeat with the same home team in 2024.
The conference opponents for KU are as follows:
• 2024: Home: Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, TCU; Away: Arizona State, BYU, Baylor, Kansas State, West Virginia
• 2025: Home: Cincinnati, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Utah; Away: Arizona, Iowa State, Texas Tech, UCF
• 2026: Home: Arizona State, Baylor, BYU, UCF; Away: Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, West Virginia, Utah
• 2027: Home: Arizona, Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech; Away: BYU, Colorado, Cincinnati, Houston
The exact dates of these matchups will be revealed closer to each season.
KU now knows its entire slate of 2024 opponents, as it will host Lindenwood in its season opener, travel to Illinois in Week 2 and then host UNLV for its final nonconference tune-up.
According to FBSchedules.com, KU will open 2025 with Fresno State and Stephen F. Austin before traveling to Missouri; 2026 with home games against Long Island, Missouri and Middle Tennessee; and 2027 with a home game against Missouri State, a road date at Washington State and one more game back home with Louisiana Tech.
The Jayhawks will have to cross time zones to play Arizona State, BYU and West Virginia next season.
