Even as the future direction of the Kansas football program remains undetermined, interim head coach Emmett Jones and the Jayhawks’ coaching staff continues to add to the program’s next recruiting class.

Nikki Taylor, a high school junior from Alabama, announced Wednesday his decision to commit to KU.

“Let’s get to work,” Taylor wrote on Twitter, along with a KU-produced graphic announcing his commitment.

Currently, Rivals hasn’t assigned Taylor a star rating. At Luverne High, Taylor received all-state honorable mention in 2020 as a receiver. But he plays defensive back at the high school level, too, and returns kicks.

Taylor became the second Class of 2022 recruit in the past couple of weeks to commit to KU after Jones was named interim head coach — even though it remains unknown whether Jones or an outside hire will be in charge on a permanent basis.

Houston Thomas, now rated a three-star prep tight end, committed to KU on April 4.

KU now has seven recruits in its 2022 class. None will be able to make his nonbinding verbal commitment to KU official until December at the earliest.
