The Kansas Jayhawks were just hot enough on a wet night to knock off the 25th-ranked Wichita State Shockers in college baseball action on Wednesday.
KU recorded a 7-5 victory in 10 innings of a rain-filled game after redshirt sophomore Michael Brooks delivered a two-run single in the 10th inning to break a 5-5 tie.
With the victory, KU swept the season series from their in-state rivals for the first time since 2015. The series sweep comes in the first year for new KU coach Dan Fitzgerald. The victory improved the Jayhawks to 20-21 on the season. The victory also marked the the third win against a ranked opponent this season for Kansas.
Junior pitcher Thaniel Thumper picked up the victory to improve to 3-3 on the year. Junior Kolby Dougan recorded the save, his first of the season.
KU, 5-10 in Big 12 play, returns to league action on Friday for the first of three games against Oklahoma, in Norman.
